Grafton RISE Indigenous Peoples Day 2022

Join Grafton RISE for a hike and reflection on the rich history of the Hassanamesit woods. These woods hold deep history for the Hassanamisco Indians of the Nipmuc Nation, and we will explore the history while walking through the area.

Who is this for?

Anyone who is interested in learning more about the history, flora and fauna of the area is welcome. Children and well behaved dogs are welcome.

When?

October 10th, 2022 at 10am EST.

Where?

Hassanamesit Woods, 33 Salisbury Street, Grafton, MA

What can I expect?

A brief historical presentation, followed by a slow paced one to two mile hike where we can talk about the area and any plants, mushrooms and wildlife we find along the way. We'll try and identify some areas of historical significance along the route.

What does it cost?

This a free event.

I'd like to read up on the history of this area beforehand, where can I find more information?

The Grafton Historical Society has a good guide to the area here: https://www.grafton-ma.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif4461/f/uploads/historyguide_without_website.pdf
